Ghost and Reality

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on December 9, 2008 by Soo Ching

Recently I have been watching a reality show called “怪谈 (guai tan)” which mean strange talk (direct translation). This show is all about ghost. Well, basically there’s a group of Hongkongese who travels around Asia to experience ghost. Some of the stories inside are quite interesting. But we never know whether they are real or just faking.

Anyway, are ghost real?… Do they really exist?… What are they?…

Spirit or soul of a deceased person, or to any spirit or demon, they are referring to the word ghost.
As for me, myself I do believe that such thing exist. It just that maybe they exist in a different dimension. According to Bruce A. Moen, ghosts are just human beings not having physical bodies. Ghosts can be amicably, creepy, sharp, foolish and everything in between, but they’re just people like you and me. We are all multidimensional beings which exist in more “places” than we can see each other with our physical eyes. Most of us have little or no consciousness of our existence before entering this level of physical world perception and we’d also limit awareness of our existence beyond this world. The motive or cause for some of us can be aware of a ghost is because its interest is focused at the level of human consciousness.
Ghost may not be alert that they’re dead. Therefore, they stay close to common environs and community. Some of them are aware of their death, but puzzled about their next step. And some may have a message they want to present to someone that is still living in the physical world. That is the main focus of interest which keeps them here and brings them to your consciousness.

While watching Hayate no Gotoku, I came through the word Doppelgänger. The frightful image seen at the window, or staring back from the mirror, could be your own–a double, or doppelgänger (from the German for “double goer”), the sight of which could foretell your own imminent demise. Sometimes described as the soul embodied, sometimes an astral projection or aura, the double most often presented itself as a warning. On other occasions, a double — of someone else – -could be called forth or seen. It is said that Abraham Lincoln himself saw his own Doppelgänger before he die.

Is this all real or just something from Hollywood horror films would have us believe?

Laugh More Live Longer

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on December 1, 2008 by Soo Ching

Apparently there are plenty of studies that show laughter reduces stress. Researchers discovered that anticipation of “mirthful laughter” had surprising and significant effects where two hormones – beta-endorphins (the family of chemicals that alleviates depression) and human growth hormone (HGH; which helps with immunity) – increased by 27 and 87 percent respectively. In the mean time, there was no such increase among the control group who did not anticipate watching the humor film. Bottom line, the researchers say, is that being open to laughter is good for people’s health.

What is gelotology?
Gelotology is a study of humor and laughter psychological and physiological.
Studies show that laughter can decrease risk of arteriosclerosis. During laughing, it appears that serum cortisol, which is released when we’re under stress, is reduced. So when you’re under a stress condition, try to laugh because the serum cortisol that has been secreted during stress is decrease which can prevent solidify of the arteries causing heart attacks, or strokes.

Laughing also leads to an increase in the counts and activity of a number of cells involved in the immune response. This includes B and T lymphocites which combat bacterial and viral infections as well as the natural “killer” cells involved in recognizing and eliminating tumor cells.

It brings people together and helps to relive stress and illness and people with a positive attitude don’t get sick as often. That is why comedians and clowns are brought into hospitals to help the patients.
